General Library Guide: Orlando: Finding Books

Finding books

Depending on what kind of research you are doing, books can be the best place to start because they will give you more information in a single location than journal articles will. A book's bibliography can also direct you to other great sources for your paper. To start, decide where you want to look for books:

In our Library

To find books in our library, begin your search by visiting the library website, library.rts.edu.

When you have found the book you want, select "View All Locations" to find the book's location and its call number (or shelf location).

With the call number, you can either find the book on the shelf by following the shelving system, or you can ask a front desk worker for help finding the book.

Don't forget to do a quick shelf browse before you walk away from where you found your book! Who knows what other treasures await you there?

If the book is not available on our campus, contact your librarian, and he can get the book for you through interlibrary loan.

On Reserve

Our Reserve Shelf, located at the front desk, has every assigned book from every class held on campus.

Simply visit the library and ask for the book you need.

The book will be checked out to you for two hours so you can get your reading done!

Reserve books may not be removed from the library unless it is the last hour of service.

If you would like to check the book out overnight, check out the reserve text during the last hour of service, and be sure to return it during the first hour of service the following day.

Further Afield

Ebooks are an excellent resource you can use right from your computer.

WorldCat is the best way to quickly find books that may not be in our library.

First, visit the website https://www.worldcat.org/ and search for the book you need.

Once found, copy and paste the bibliographic information in an email to your librarian.

He can get you any book through interlibrary loan.

And the service is free to you!
